Beecasso
Twenty years of saving bees has a way of getting noticed. Below is some of the recognition Beecasso has earned along the way, from a Diane Keaton endorsement to the California State Legislature to the news crews who showed up when the swarms did. Every item here is real, documented, and earned by the work.

Official recognition
In 2015 the California State Legislature issued Beecasso a Certificate of Recognition for its work rescuing and relocating honeybees. That kind of acknowledgment does not come from a marketing budget. It comes from showing up, season after season, and doing right by the bees and by the people who call.
Press
El Camino College’s student newspaper, The Union, profiled Steve in April 2023 under the headline “Sweet as Honey: The Buzzworthy Tale of a Beekeeping Extraordinaire.” The feature looks at Steve and the work behind Beecasso.

When a bee swarm took over a Pasadena neighborhood, CBS LA / KCAL covered it, with Steve on screen. It is the work the way Beecasso always does it: live removal, not extermination.

In May 2023 Inside Edition featured Steve moving swarms to the Beecasso sanctuary. In the segment, Steve speaks to the heart of the whole operation: relocation over extermination, every time.
Work association
When production on Twisters (2024) found roughly fifty thousand bees living on Universal’s Falls Lake lot, the call went to Beecasso. Steve removed the colony safely and relocated it, the same careful way he handles a backyard swarm. In recognition of that work, Universal granted Beecasso permission to display its logo. Trusted by Universal Studios is a line Beecasso earned on the job. The full story was later told by LA Magazine, below.
Community
Beecasso’s own neighbors have voted it a Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite five years in a row: 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. That award does not come from a panel or a press office. It comes from the people next door, the ones who needed help and got it.

LA Magazine writer A.J. Daulerio told the full Beecasso story, the Twisters job included, in a feature on how Steve has spent his career saving the queens. It is the most complete account of the work in print.
